Videoconference 27/10: Certification of competences and e-credentials.

Last Thursday 27th October, ILO/Cinterfor held a conference with Gerardo Kargl, expert in new technologies and educational models on e-credentials for the certification of competencies. In the meeting, Kargl spoke about the experience in e-certifications; as well as its growth, challenges and its link with the demand for employment.

Digital technologies are having a huge impact on the learning environment, while learning platforms are evolving rapidly and their offerings are affecting the way programmes are accessed, studied, assessed and certified.

Clearly these changes are impacting on the way in which certain competences can be recognised and certified; and within this area, there is the growing offer of digital certificates. This raises many questions about their effectiveness, portability, quality assurance systems and their interaction with trends such as the recognition of prior learning and qualifications frameworks.

ILO/Cinterfor proposes to provide knowledge on what digital certifications are and how they work. In this case, the growing supply of e-certificates or "electronic batches" increased as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic was analysed.
